About Shani Shingnapur Temple

Shri Shanaishchara Devasthan in Shani Shingnapur is a highly revered temple dedicated to Shani Dev (the planet Saturn). The temple is globally unique as the deity, a five-and-a-half-foot tall black rock, is 'swayambhu' (self-manifested) and stands on an open-air platform without any roof. The village is famously known for having no doors or locks on its houses and commercial buildings, as locals believe that Shani Dev punishes anyone who attempts theft. Devotees flock here, especially on Saturdays and Shani Amavasya, to offer oil and prayers to appease Lord Shani and mitigate astrological hardships.
